Sources

Sources are where your data begins its journey in Datastripes. They connect your flows to the information you need, whether that’s databases, files, APIs, or live event streams.

Types of sources

Datastripes supports a wide variety of sources to fit your needs:

  • SQL databases like Postgres, MySQL, and more
  • Plain data uploads such as CSVs, JSON files, or even pasted raw data
  • URL endpoints to fetch data from APIs or public web resources
  • Events, streaming real-time data from clicks, sensors, or other live sources

Each source type opens up different ways to bring your data into the platform — ready to be transformed, analyzed, and visualized.

Creating and connecting sources

Starting a source is simple:

  1. Click Add Source within your flow.
  2. Pick the type of source you want to add.
  3. Provide the necessary connection details or upload your data file.
  4. Test the connection to make sure everything works smoothly.
  5. Save the source and link it into your flow by dragging it onto the canvas.

From there, connect your source to nodes that process or visualize your data — and watch your flow come alive.

Managing your sources

Keeping your flows tidy means managing sources well:

  • You can edit or update connection details any time to keep things current.
  • Remove unused sources to simplify your workspace and improve performance.

Example use cases

Sources power countless workflows:

  • Connect directly to your sales or finance databases
  • Import customer feedback from a CSV export
  • Stream live events like website clicks or IoT sensor data

Tips for source management

tip
  • Use clear, descriptive names to quickly identify sources in your flows.
  • Secure sensitive connections by setting proper permissions and access controls.
  • Regularly review and clean up sources to maintain an efficient workspace.
